Wake Up!

A lot of churches today once experienced spiritual fire, but the fire now has gone out. Their pastors simply stopped preaching repentance and instead started focusing on traditions and rituals. They quit having revivals and instead now depend upon programs to draw in people. They still hold services and proclaim the importance of church attendance; yet there’s no power in the people’s lives. Sermons are lifeless. They are often taken from other ministers or from the Internet.  Many preach a social message that is not biblical in the least. There’s no call to holiness nor an urgency to seek the Lord. And sadly many in their congregations don’t even realize their church is dead. They faithfully attend, sing songs, and are involved in church activities yet have not repented from sin nor made Jesus Christ the Lord of their lives. Without seeking God’s presence and hungering for righteousness, they are not truly alive in Christ.  Many are complacent. They think that spending an hour a week in a church service is all they need to do. They may be relying on their parents’ religion. They don’t witness, pray, or read the Bible. They are asleep and don’t even realize it.

But there is hope and a call to WAKE UP!  In Revelation 3:2. Jesus calls His Church to “wake out of sleep and strengthen what remains that is about to die.” Fortunately, many repent and are turning back to God and receive the true Gospel message.  By seeking the Lord with all their hearts, repenting from sin, living in an attitude of prayer, and fellowshipping with other believers, these may  be saved. The Bible says we should seek the Lord while He may be found — Turn to Him! Look unto Jesus — the Author of your faith. Be saved from an eternity apart from God. Be filled with the Spirit! Jesus said in John 10:27:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish.”

Does your church preach the full Gospel or does it leave out parts of it? Does it focus on prosperity while ignoring repentance — believe in God’s mercy — yet never preach holiness? Hopefully your church leads people to repentance which according to Matthew 4:17 is at the core of Jesus’ Gospel message. Without that, there’s no true salvation and no hope of eternal life.
