Be Astonished!

“To be astonished is one of the surest ways of not growing old too quickly.” – Sidonie Gabrielle Colette (early 20th century author)

Are you experiencing the daily miracles in your life, or are you allowing the stress and burden of the daily grind to wear you down?

Does the drive to work or the workload on your desk make you forget the miracle of having a job? Has the daily pickup after school become a chore that causes you to miss the miracle of joy in a kid’s laughter? Does the grocery list and concern about budget eliminate the miraculous smell of tangerines?

Do you remember the amazement you felt as a child when you uncovered a new thought or idea, or learned a new word, or when you studied the colors in a butterfly’s wing? Do you remember what it was like to experience things for the very first time?

Jesus admonished us to “be [changed] and become as little children”. How far away from the simple faith of children have we grown? Has our childlike faith and trust become heavy with adult cares and concerns?

A quote attributed to dancer, Vickie Corona, says it better than I can. “Remember that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away!”

I encourage you to look for the miracle that is wrapped up in the “every day” of your life, beginning with this day. Make it a blessed one.
