This idea refers to the concept of being included in God’s plan of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, His shed blood for the forgiveness of our sins. It is illustrated by Jesus’ metaphor and illustration of the olive tree. Just as branches are grafted onto a tree to share in its nourishment — in this case staying connected to God, our Source. We Gentiles had no earthly right to inherit the mercy and blessings of God. But by faith and the blood of Jesus and His sacrifice, we are grafted into the spiritual tree of God’s covenant with Israel, inheriting the blessings and promises as children of God.
But we must stay connected to “God’s Root System” through prayer, discipleship, reading and knowing God’s Word, and fellowshipping with other believers.
“…remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you” ~~ Romans 11:18a.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I Am the Vine. You are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing” ~~ John 15:4-5.
Jesus states, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” ~~ John 15:7.
There is no life in us apart from remaining IN CHRIST — drawing our very life from Him!
