Prayer

This photo is of the iconic Prayer Tower at the center of the Oral Roberts University campus in Tulsa being assembled in 1965.

My brother John and I both attended Oral Roberts University. The ORU Prayer Tower at the center of the campus is the focal point that to this day is a place of 24-hour concerted student prayer.

In 1969, John and I became part of the World Action traveling team “The Collegians.” We traveled by bus through six states during Easter break minister to people individually in churches  —  allowing the life of the Lord Jesus and the anointing of the Holy Spirit to be manifest to those who desperately needed God. We represented the compassion, love, and healing power of the Lord and a spark of hope for their lives. One man said, “I don’t know what it is. The concert was great and all, but you have something that I need.”

And we were able to lead folks to salvation. Only God knows the results of these interactions and our prayers that brought them joy, brought them closer to God, and built their faith. And in every city and church in which we sang and ministered I experienced feelings of fulfillment, satisfaction, and a desire to keep ministering to others all my life. This specific tour solidified my calling to the ministry; and what I gained from my media courses later firmed up my calling of God to the global media mission field as a pioneer in Christian television ministry. And how thankful I am that God used us even as college students to touch lives one-on-one. My love for the Lord and serving Him as His minister and prayer intercessor has never changed. Praise God!
