Believers don’t have to try to get into God’s presence because we practice His presence continually. It never leaves. We ABIDE in Him. Abiding isn’t visiting God occasionally; it’s recognizing He’s made His home in us permanently.
We abide — yes, we live — in Christ. Christ dwells in us by His Spirit. This completely transforms how we approach spiritual life. Instead of seeking encounters and seasons of blessing and revival, we become His habitation — His dwelling place. Instead of trying to feel His presence, we trust His promise: “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
We don’t abide by working harder to connect with God. We abide by resting in the connection that already exists. God lives in us permanently — for eternity —not sometimes, not when we feel spiritual enough, but always.
When His presence seems distant, we should practice abiding by giving Him a sacrifice of praise; for we know that God dwells in the sacrifices of praise of His people. It’s a sacrifice because we don’t feel like praising. It seems like there’s nothing to praise Him for.
And then we REST IN our relationship instead of working for relationship. We practice awareness of His existing presence instead of trying to create encounters with God. We live from His promises, not our feelings.
Abiding isn’t a spiritual discipline we try to perform — it’s a reality we acknowledge. We don’t have to maintain His presence, we simply recognize it. We don’t have to earn His dwelling, we simply accept it.
We just confidently KNOW! Our spiritual stability comes from His faithfulness, not our feelings. We are His permanent address. He is our permanent habitation that we simply receive as a gift of Jesus Christ, through the gracious love of the Father towards us.
