How does a person become holy? Will God blame us for our sins when we die?
The answer lies in Ephesians 1:3-6, which states, “Praise be to God for giving us through Christ every possible spiritual benefit as citizens of Heaven! Consider what he has done—before the world was even formed, he chose us to become his holy and blameless children, living under his constant care. His purpose of love was to adopt us as his own children through Jesus Christ, so that we might learn to praise the glorious generosity of his love that has made us welcome in his everlasting love for the Son.” (JBP)
This means that if we are ashamed of our sin or feel unworthy to stand before God’s presence, as a citizen of Heaven we can trust Him and this promise that He makes us holy, presentable and blameless because of Jesus Christ. Our trust is in the Lord and His promises! He has seen us before He even made the world and all creation.
Therefore, when we have a need, we can according to Hebrews 4;16: “Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with fullest confidence, that we may receive mercy for our failures and grace to help in the hour of need” (JB Phillips).
