Jesus warns us that morality without Christ is a beautifully staged, perfectly lit, empty house. And evil loves the vacancy sign.
Have you tried to clean up your life? It’s not enough. Repenting? Not enough. Therapy, self-help, ritual, “spirituality”? Not enough! If Christ does not reside inside you—your life is a hollow—empty place where even more extreme darkness waits at the door ready to move back in and re-occupy the very evil you escaped. Repentance must end in surrender. Only God’s Spirit in the person of Christ living inside you will make you an entirely new creation. Self-help methods dazzle but collapse. But when Christ moves in, He lights the fireplace, moves in, and makes it His own. The self-life leads to despair. The Christ-filled life provides enduring freedom. There is no neutral ground. Empty equals vulnerable. FILLED = FREE!
If you want lasting freedom, don’t just sweep out bad habits from your life—hand the keys to Christ’s for His residency in your heart. Be filled with His Spirit!
“When an unclean spirit leaves a person, it wanders through dry, empty spaces looking for rest, but it finds none. Then it says, ‘I’ll return to the house I moved out of,’ and so it goes back, only to find that the house is vacant, warm, and ready for it to move back in. Then it goes and gathers seven other evil spirits, even more evil than itself, and together they move back in. The person’s final condition is worse than the first. That is what will happen to this corrupt generation.” Matthew 12:43, 44, 45.
