I thank God for the chapters in the Bible that discuss qualifications for ministry leaders and church elders. These are most notably in 1 Timothy. But the verses I want to focus on today are found in Titus 1 & 2. I pray that the Lord receives praise from my life as a ministry leader as I endeavor to adhere to these precepts:
“An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine…” ~~ Titus 1:6-9 (NIV).
“You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love, and in endurance” ~~ Titus 2:1-2.
And when all is said and done, I just want to hear the Lord say to me: “’Well done, you good and faithful servant!’ said his master. ‘You have been faithful in managing small amounts, so I will put you in charge of many things. Come on in and share my happiness!” ~~ Matthew 25:23 (GN).
