The Meaning of Life

What is the meaning of life for a Christian? I did a study recently on this subject. The Internet says “The meaning of life, according to the Christian faith, is ultimately found in Jesus Christ. We are the beloved children of God, created by our heavenly Father to reflect His glory, walk in His love, and do His will.”

Each of us is born into the world without knowing exactly who we are (identity), where we come from (origin), why we’re here (meaning), what to live for (reason), how we should live (purpose), and where we are going (destiny).

Every generation considers this question. The secular view is that life is about Love, Gaining Wealth, Personal Happiness, Self-fulfillment, and Gaining Wisdom and Influence or Service in society. But as Christians we have a greater perspective on the purpose of life.

Our existence must revolve around the Maker of all things — Jesus Christ, the giver of life itself. John 1:3 reads: “All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created.”

First and foremost we pray and repent —  seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Then we receive by recognizing Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord, by proclaiming our devotion to Him, and sharing His love with others.

From the catechism: “The purpose of man is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.”

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” ~~ 1 Corinthians 20:31.
