When to Meet for Church

I love to meet with other believers multiple times every week. But when did the early followers of “The Way” meet?

It would be only natural for Jesus’ followers to meet on the day of His resurrection — the First Day of the Week (which was the very center of their belief; and even today this is the main day for a majority of Christians to worship.)

Now, I am not advocating for Sunday worship as the only day of the week to meet. However, the Apostle Paul and the Christians of Troas, gathered on the Lord’s Day (Sunday) “to break bread” according to Acts 20:7: “On the first day of the week when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight” and in John 20:19: “On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the disciples had gathered together the doors of the place because they were afraid leaders. Jesus appeared among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’”

1 Corinthians 16:2: “On the first day of the week, each of you should set aside some income and save it to the extent that God has blessed you, so that a collection will not have to be made when I come.”
