Kathy’s Birthday

As many of you know, the Lord brought Kathy into my life while I was at ORU my junior year. From the get-go Kathy desired to be an educator.  During the five years we dated I was amazed at the depth of her calling to teach. Kathy taught elementary school in Sand Springs / Tulsa right after graduation. Then right after our Honeymoon that next summer, Kathy left her teaching job to marry me and make our move to Dallas. And supernaturally God opened the opportunity to teach at an inner city Dallas elementary school where she thrived.

After Joy and Justin were born and we moved to Lakewood, Colorado, Kathy resumed her teaching career at Riverview Christian Academy (Marilyn Hickey‘s ministry). Then after Joy graduated high school, Kathy took a position at Faith Christian Academy in Arvada, teaching elementary grades — mostly language and math.

When we moved back to Tulsa in 1999, God opened the door for Kathy to teach at Victory Christian School where she was honored in “Who’s Who Among American Educators” and “teacher of the year.” Actually she taught school altogether for 33 years. I’ll long remember her self sacrifice, her love for her students, her diligence, spirit of excellence, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. I’ve always been so proud of Kathy and so thankful I married her.

Of course Kathy was not only a teacher but my loving wife of 50 + years and the mother of our two precious children now grown. We all miss her; and though she has gone on to her Heavenly reward now nearly three years ago already, I honor Kathy on her earthly birthday.
