As a boy of nine after my dad died, I asked my mother “Why did Dad die so soon?” And she gave me very wise words — that “As Christians, we are not to question God.” In fact, she went on to say that if we do question God’s ways — really, we are not trusting His sovereignty, His love, etc. Because He does all things well. It’s better to ask God what we should do now in this situation. We realize that many prophets asked God “Why?” They, like us, prayed yet did not get the answer that they expected or hoped for. Through all of this, I learned that our God is trustworthy.
We may never understand WHY situations turn out the way they do or why our specific prayers were not answered. . . Or, if His answer was NO, we don’t accuse God. We don’t become angry with Him. We simply trust.
The Bible says in several places that “The just ones (righteous people) shall live by their faith.” and that’s enough for me.
(Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 19:38)
