Lord Tennyson’s Poem

Picking up where we left off yesterday. We may desire to question our authorities: In the poem “The Charge of the Light Brigade” Tennyson writes: “Theirs not to make reply,…Theirs not to reason “why?” (This was during the Crimean War). The next line reads: “Theirs but to do and die” implying that the soldiers’ loyalty and trusting their commanding officer is crucial. And those brave men seemingly senselessly fought and died.

In today’s world for Christians, knowing that Jesus Christ our Commander, our Lord, our Guide lived on Earth’s spiritual battlefield just like we do — and understanding “we are more than conquerors through Him” — that He paid the ultimate price when Jesus sacrificed His life so that we might live — we trust Him implicitly. And so we never get angry with God over circumstances, and why things happen as they do. We trust and obey.   (Romans 8:37)
