The New Testament uses two words for “bear.” In Galatians 6:2, it means to carry a burden. But in Colossians 3:13 and Ephesians 4:2, “to bear up” means to hold oneself up against another to support them—like staking a tomato plant so it won’t collapse under its weight.
God calls us not merely to tolerate one another, but to stake ourselves to those who are struggling, strengthening and supporting them so they do not fall.
As I pray for others, I help bear their burdens—upholding them, encouraging their faith, and standing with them on God’s promises. In the end, God receives the glory.
“We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves” ~~ Romans 15:1.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” ~~ Galatians 6:2.
