God’s Faithfulness

We sing about God’s faithfulness. The general understanding of and by Christians is that He is faithful to us. Possibly that He is faithful to His promises. But there is an even more significant way of thinking about God’s faithfulness.

Father God forgives our sin (or heals our bodies) because Jesus paid the ultimate price and sacrifice by his shed blood and death on the Criss. God is faithful to His own Son and the finished and completed work Jesus did. Jesus said “It is finished!” It’s a done deal. Jesus paid the price. All sins are forgiven to those who receive Him. And Father God immediately forgives our sins because He is faithful to His Son.

So when you read 1 John 1:9 and we think about His cleansing us from all unrighteousness, it’s not because He promised it to us; but because of His faithfulness to stay in agreement with Jesus’ finished work.  Let’s read it again from several sources:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” ~~ 1 John 1:9 (NIV).

“But if we freely admit our sins when His light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and He will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” ~~ 1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭(TPT‬‬).
